Celebrating 20 Years: GCRFC Launches Food Drive to Support Belmont Community Organization

Donation Box

This year, Gaston County Rugby Football Club (GCRFC) marks two decades of bringing rugby to our local community. As we celebrate this monumental milestone, we've decided to extend our ethos of teamwork and community spirit beyond the rugby field.

In partnership with the Belmont Community Organization (BCO), we are hosting a food drive at our 20th Anniversary Rugby Mashup event. Founded in 1956, the BCO is a pillar of strength for our local community, annually distributing over 100,000 pounds of food, clothing, furniture, appliances, and household items to nearly 1,000 families. They also provide limited financial assistance for necessities such as medication, rent, and utilities.

The food drive will take place at Martha Rivers Park, Gastonia, NC, during our celebratory Rugby Mashup event scheduled for August 5, 2023, between 12 pm to 3 pm. There will be a dedicated collection box at the park for attendees to drop off canned food items.

The most helpful donations include non-perishable items such as:

  • Canned vegetables and fruits

  • Canned meat (tuna, chicken)

  • Dry and canned beans

  • Peanut butter

  • Pasta and rice

  • Breakfast cereals and oatmeal

  • Canned or dry soup

  • Toiletries

Whether you're a rugby player, a fan of the game, or a community member who wants to support a good cause, your participation can make a significant difference. By contributing to this food drive, you're not only supporting a critical local resource, but you're also helping us strengthen the bonds that tie our community together.

At GCRFC, we are deeply passionate about our local Gaston County community and continuously seek ways to positively impact it. This food drive is more than a collection effort – it's a demonstration of the collective power of our community when we come together.

Mark your calendars for August 5th, prepare for a day of exciting rugby action, and join us in making a difference by supporting this noble cause. Remember, every can counts!

If you have any questions regarding the food drive or how you can further support the Belmont Community Organization, please reach out to John Lenti at Secretary@GastonCountyRugby.com.

As we celebrate the past twenty years and look forward to many more, we invite you to stand with us, not only as a rugby club but as a community, ready to help and support each other. Let's make our 20th anniversary not just a celebration of rugby, but also a celebration of our shared commitment to our local community.
